Have you ever had an incredible idea, concept or plan? I’m talking about a monumental business idea, song idea or any idea you felt could possibly change your life for the better. Your Idea was so great you just knew it would be your one way ticket to success, fame and fortune. You confide in a close friend and they get really pumped and you feel like you’re on the top of the world at the moment. Your zeal lead to ambition as you believe you are on the path to something great. That typically how many wonderful things begin but what happens in the coming weeks or months when your zeal diminishes and maintaining your ambition becomes a challenge?
In the beginning, we make it our focus everyday after work to come home and work on the big idea. As the weeks pass on by you feel less and less engaged and it starts feel like a chore just to continue working on it. I dealt with this heavenly when I started my book project. It was very zealous in the beginning but I ran into some days where I had to really force myself to keep writing. A lot of outside forces can contribute to a waning desire to continue. Maybe you ran up against some opposition and started to feel like your idea wasn’t as great as you thought it was or worse you got caught up in other things and placed your idea on the back burner. The back burner is where progress goes to die. This cycle sounds all too familiar doesn’t it? We get excited and zealous only to relapse back into a pattern of starting things that we actually do not ever finish.
“Inspiration comes and it goes”
Inspiration comes and it goes. When you fully understand this you will be able to weather the days you feel the least inspired. I have days where the creative juices are flowing and I feel like I am on top of the world. Then I have days like yesterday where It felt like I just couldn’t gather my thoughts. It’s frustrating for sure but its apart of the journey. It happens to the best of us and it’s ok. There are many things that happen during the course of our days that could impact our ability to think clearly. There are many things we can do to jump start our minds. Stress is the one of the biggest reasons why we do not perform our best. Eliminating stress is one of the greatest things anyone can do if you want to get the most out of life.
“Get your blood pumping”
One of my favorite things to do is exercising. I do it literally everyday and even on vacation. I find my best ideas come when I am outside jogging. It’s just me and my thoughts when I run. Having a clear mind really helps to ignite the flame of your ambition. It doesn’t have to be running, it could be anything that stimulates movement. Exercise and physical activities have been scientifically proven to boost mood and endorphins. A lot of people underestimate the power of walking also. Walking outside is good for the soul. I recommend incorporating at least 30 minutes of walking into your day. Nature can be the one of greatest sources of inspiration. I promise you will see the benefit it has on your body and mind.
“Keeping the flame of Ambition Alive”
Nothing worth having on this planet comes without a cost. Success in any area of life requires persistence, hard work, dedication, faith and ambition. Ambition is the strong desire to achieve. Ambition is what keeps you going when you feel like quitting. It is a flame that burns brightly when you keep putting wood to the fire. What are you doing daily to feed your strong desire to succeed? Are you hanging around people who are successful? Are you giving up a couple of hours of your favorite show to work on your craft? How dedicated are you? This is one of the hardest parts of walking the path of success. It’s easy to feel motivated in the beginning. In the early days of any project it’s not difficult to turn off the tv when you first decide to take action. Think of how you felt when you first started your latest project. The rubber truly meets the road when you encounter opposition or worst; procrastination.
In a world where it seems like people are becoming successful overnight, it is easy to begin to compare your own journey to that of another. Comparison is counter productive. I encourage you today to take inventory of your thoughts, actions and ambitions. Everyone has been given gifts and talents. You have the power to go as far as you want in life. Keep the flame of your ambition burning brightly by staying committed to your dreams, ideas and goals. I dare you to keep pushing forward on the days where you feel like your inspiration has walked away. Keep moving forward even if you feel like giving up. Success is a result of small intentional action steps a day. One foot after another. You may get knocked down at times during your journey but remember to pick yourself up and dust yourself off and continue walking towards your destiny.
